Creating a More Conversational ESL Class

Facilitating conversation in an ESL class is instrumental in improving your students’ English speaking skills. English-language students need the opportunity to practice speaking in a safe environment so they can build their skills. Communicative classrooms encourage students to learn language through practical, real-world application. By increasing a focus on conversational skills in the classroom, ESL students will gain confidence and independence when using English. 

FLOW Speak’s English Speaking Courses

FLOW Speak’s goal is to empower English-language learners with tools to improve their English speaking skills. Through six different styles of lessons, FLOW Speak utilizes AI to enable learners to practice their English conversation skills with dynamic feedback. FLOW Speak’s courses are pre-designed units focused on specific topics such as business, travel, and everyday life. Students can use these courses independently or they can be integrated into an ESL class to support teacher-led modules.

Integrating a FLOW Speak Course in the ESL Classroom

To assist teachers in integrating these courses into their classes, FLOW Speak has created a module plan that corresponds to the 8-week “On Vacation” course. This course focuses on travel-related vocabulary and conversational skills. Paired together with the FLOW Speak course, this module plan will provide teachers with a solid foundation to teach a travel unit.

“On Vacation” Module Plan

Designed for low intermediate (CEFR B1 level) students, the “On Vacation” course module plan includes suggested warm-ups, vocabulary words, and interactive exercises for each week of the FLOW Speak course. Teachers can modify and add to the weekly plans based on the unique needs of their students and the number of classroom hours. The FLOW Speak lessons for each week can be assigned during class time or as homework to reinforce the material included in that day’s lesson.
